Consider these four simple steps to transform your eating habits to be more eco-friendly: Shop small and local Instead of defaulting to the grocery store or ordering from a warehouse for home delivery, consider shopping locally. Even doing this once or twice a month to supplement your household needs can make a big difference. Consolidate your shopping and take fewer trips to make the most of each visit. #The Daily Edition-The Rule of 5 when starting a home based business

So you've made the decision to become financially self-sufficient! You've made the decision to work from home. Congratulations! I'm confident that this is a decision that will change your life and put you on the path to financial independence.

However, that is only going to happen if you are careful enough to allow it to happen! When deciding to work from home, there are a few things you should keep an eye out for in particular. When you decide to give the work at home business thing a shot, you'll quickly discover that this was only the beginning of the process. The difficult part is figuring out which one is the best fit for you. With all of the so-called "opportunities" that are available on the internet, you should exercise extreme caution when selecting a work-at-home business opportunity. In order to assist you, I have compiled a list of a few simple rules:

Rule #1: Try to stay away from "get rich quick" schemes.

That, my friends, is a golden rule! Generally speaking, if something appears to be too good to be true, it almost always is! Of course you would like to be compensated for doing nothing (as would the rest of us! ), and I understand that these opportunities sound appealing. You might think that if these people had a magic solution to making a lot of money, they would use it instead of attempting to sell it to you at whatever price they could get away with. It's disheartening to know that so many people become dissatisfied after realizing that they have squandered their valuable time and money. There are no magic tricks to be found! Instead, dedication and hard work can lead to financial success.

Rule #2: Select a program that you enjoy and with which you are comfortable working.

Another rule that must be followed! Consider the following scenario: you come across a program that requires you to sell life insurance to participants. You despise people who work in the insurance industry. You believe they are exaggerating their claims.

So what, the compensation plan appears to be excellent! What would you do in this situation? Would you be interested in participating in the program? Can you see yourself working in the life insurance industry, even if you despise the concept?

Answer: You will never be able to make any money doing something you do not enjoy doing!

The point I'm trying to make here is that you should go ahead and learn everything you can about the program you're interested in before applying. Simply set aside some time to complete necessary reading through the available materials (company website, related articles etc).

Consider getting a general understanding of how the system operates, and if you require additional information or become confused, you should seek assistance from the person who referred you to the program. It is always beneficial to complete your homework.

Rule #3: Make certain that you understand exactly what you're getting for your money before you spend it.

There are simply too many businesses out there that present you with sales letters that are as long as a book, but provide you with no indication of what you will actually receive in return!

After all, if the product they are selling is that good and is going to make you so much money, why would they try to keep it hidden? Why did you only mention it in the last few paragraphs of your article?

Okay, I understand that this is the way sales are closed. Nonetheless, you would like to be aware of exactly what you are purchasing. It could save you a great deal of heartache!

Rule #4: Conduct a background investigation on the company.

The greater the amount of time it has been around the better. So you can rest assured that you are dealing with a well-established organization that will not go bankrupt four months after you join!

It has been reported that people have lost their online businesses as well as the commissions owed to them as a result of this very reason. Choosing a reputable company is not only necessary, but it can also be critical to the success of your work from home business.

Rule # 5: Make certain that you will receive all of the assistance that you require.

It's standard practice for someone to sign up for a program, pay his or her membership fee or purchase a product, and then be left in the dark, unsure of what to do next. Once again, I'm going to repeat myself, but the point is important. Make an effort to gain an understanding of how the system operates, who your upline people are, and how they can assist you.

If you require additional information or become perplexed, do not hesitate to seek assistance from the individual who referred you to the program. Not only will you gain an understanding of how the program is organized, but you will also be putting your referrer through his or her paces to see if he or she will respond promptly to your request for assistance.

But first and foremost, you must gain an understanding of how the program operates.

Take a look at the compensation structure.

Okay, so you've decided to participate in a program that will, hopefully, result in your financial success. Do you have any idea how this is going to transpire? It is not required that you understand every aspect of the compensation plan from the day you begin working for the company. But, wouldn't it be nice to know whether you're getting a 5 percent or a 60 percent commission on a typical sale?

After all, it takes the same amount of effort to generate a sale as it does to generate a lead. Do you want to be compensated more for your efforts?

Don't spend a lot of money at the beginning.

In order to be legitimate, a work-from-home business must be able to operate at a minimal or low cost. If you want to start a home business, you shouldn't have to spend a lot of money on it. At least, not at the start of the game. The decision to put money into your own home business should be your own and not dictated by anyone else. It should be based on the understanding that you are in charge of what you make of your company.

There are more rules that I could add to this list and end up with a very long list, but that is not my intention. A clear path, a few steps that should be simple to follow, through the minefield of schemes and "get-rich-quick" deals to a company you can really trust is my goal. I hope you find it useful. When looking for an opportunity or a work at home business, it is just as important to use your own common sense as it is to keep these rules in mind.

Your decision to participate in a program should be the result of careful consideration of the facts; it should not, in any case, be based solely on curiosity. Please remember that there are very few legitimate work from home opportunities available, and you must search for the one that is right for you.
